Mallard's 2012 Diary
Re: Mallard's 2012 DiaryI've already made a lemon courgette cake, and very nice it was too!
Someone on the plots made a chocolate one, so it's next on the list! http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/5959/lem ... -cake.aspx http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/6186/cho ... -cake.aspx I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.

Iris. Dahlia. These are cape gooseberries, they've just got their flower buds on. I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.

Re: Mallard's 2012 DiaryThe cape gooseberries seem to be doing better outside, I noticed the first little 'lantern' today!

Re: Mallard's 2012 DiaryAll in all it's not been a good season, The tomatoes went on the bonfire (something you shouldn't do according to the allotment society) the spuds are tasty and usable if I dig out the worm holes, and all my greens, except red cabbage, have been destroyed by pigeons, slugs and caterpillars!
I've a good crop of parsnips, my carrots in a tub did well and the leeks are OK but not very big. The shark's fin melons weren't bad but not as big as last season, but I've traded them for Chinese takeaways delivered to my door! The spaghetti marrow cross pollinated and produced all sorts of squashes including one shark's fin! I had a poor onion crop but an amazing crop of florence fennel. My late raspberries are still producing fruit! I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.

Re: Mallard's 2012 DiaryNot much left to eat now, red cabbage (had some tonight), leeks and parsnips. So I've started a bit of next season planning and construction; I dismantled my shark's fin melon cage and turned it into a "munty" frame for runner beans!
I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.

I hope you have secured Julian well wouldn't want to think some rogues would use him as a Guy next month.
Re: Mallard's 2012 Diary
He's a bit heavy to carry far! But I'm in the process of carving a pumpkin head for him this week complete with solar light, I suppose someone will climb the barbed wire for it! I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.
