Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diaryDebs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diaryI thought i'd start a gyo diary. im 'hoping' for big things this year for the allotment, and lets be honest i cant get worse than last years efforts of; a bit of rhubarb, 15 blueberries, a broad bean, a half eaten by a slug strawberry and 4 tomatoes!!
Its amazing how much the plot has dried out since putting the basic trench work down and a week of good weather, ill take some pics this weekend when im there. jobs to do over the next few weekends; im planning on replanting the strawberries from last year that have come back up into a hanging basket and put them on the shed in the sunlight. im going to plant some tomato seeds and get them as established plants before planting out. finish off the trench work, dig up the gooseberries in the back garden and get them down on the plot, get the drainage in, and get the greenhouse back up!! the only really gyo thing thats happened is ive covered the rhubarb with manure, and a chicken is laying an egg every few days. oh and the potatoes are currently chitting in the kitchen. photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Re: Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diarytrench work phase 1 nearly complete Its been total hard graft i can tell you. on that allotment, middle of feb in a vest, jeans, waterproof pants and wellies. getting your feet stuck in horrible sloppy mud!! Today however, i went down to take this picture and i walked around the plot in my work boots!! no wellies no sinking in mud!! The good weather and the trenching really has made a difference. photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Re: Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diaryTheres been a light snow today, not enough to cover, but enough to make it cold and to make the soil too hard to dig.
Ive been to the plot today but ive not really done much. Ive planted up some tomato seeds they are currently in the shed - and i forgot to water them I have also planted flowers to get a bit of colour to the plot. milk bottle flower holders: ive put these on a few fence posts: Ive put some new flowers in the shed window box: And finally ive lifted some of the plastic on the chicken coop, to give them a bit more light. Now the weather is getting better, it makes sense but they've still got the back corner to shelter in until the spring/summer time: For the rest of the day, im off for a bike rider i think with mr husband and his friend. Happy days! photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Re: Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diaryI've not been to the plot today, because mr husband has my car and by the time i get there on my bike with everything ill need, id be shattered and well it just seemed counter productive, plus i cycled school run this morning so thats 3.5ish miles there and back, and really i thought i would go early in the morning, go get some more wood for the greenhouse and get a good early start on it.
BUT i have been in the garden all morning (and i have to say bed all afternoon, im even led here now). Ive had a good garden tidy up, ive dug a hold for the new rose bush, but more importantly and the reason for post i've dug up my gooseberries and my fig tree (hence being in bed). That thing is mammoth!!! They're going down to the plot with me tomorrow and ill plant them both up hopefully. Yesterday, i went out with mum and i bought some herbs for plot and also mum got me the most gorgeous buddha again for my plot, but mr husband is holding it hostage saying its to nice to go down there and it should stay at home in the garden. xx photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Re: Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diaryGetting there Deb
Must say I agree with Hub re Budda - you would hate it to go missing and if he is a handsome chap that may happen. Really think it makes a difference to have a tiny bit of colour around the plot to lift your spirits and your spring planter is just the job. It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

I love having flowers around me on the plot its nice to have a bit of colour.

The chicken coop has moved: and the chickens have a bigger new house, which i painted this week: the raised beds are made up and have since been repositioned since this photo: Today i have started levelling out one of the raised beds to use, im hoping to use maybe just two this year but we'll see. Ill take some photos this week (with my fancy new camera!) of the ACTUAL growing thats going on on the plot. photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/
