I tried to get a better picture. It is my Avacado, I think it is probably a bit leggy, I nipped out the top growth to encourage it to be bushy, but it grew in exactly the same place. Sarah - slave to Cats Anthony, Elsa and Pippa, Chickens, Heidi, Fleur, Gabby and Marmite, R.I.P Cadbury
Re: Sarahs 2012 Garden DiaryI haven't updated for a while.
The things that are growing are doing quite well, some did nothing at all. Artichokes are ready for harvesting. Runner beans are rubbish. Onions are doing well. Cabbages Cauliflowers and leeks are ok. Potatoes were really nice, thought I had planted lots, am looking for some I can plant now. Hoping for lots of Tomatoes. This is a plant we bought ready grown, had lots of Toms off it but it is past its best now. The garden needs lots of work, I have been waiting for my holidays and some better weather. Think I will just have to put on my wellies and a waterproof. Sarah - slave to Cats Anthony, Elsa and Pippa, Chickens, Heidi, Fleur, Gabby and Marmite, R.I.P Cadbury
Re: Sarahs 2012 Garden DiaryHey Saz, in a couple of weeks time I will swap you a bundle of runner beans for an artichoke
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Yes, I did plant it, so you'd think I'd be less surprised. That's what I love about growing veg, never fails to put a smile on my face. Sarah - slave to Cats Anthony, Elsa and Pippa, Chickens, Heidi, Fleur, Gabby and Marmite, R.I.P Cadbury
Re: Sarahs 2012 Garden DiaryHi Saz
I know exactly what you mean, I still can't believe that those tiny tiny little seeds I plant grow into food. We will be having the first of this years cauliflowers for tea tonight Davina

You may have gone, but are never ever forgotten. Re: Sarahs 2012 Garden DiaryJust found this thread. What are these? The first pic has cabbage/cauli leaves but not a cauli middle. Is the second a bag of beads you dropped?
Ah, I can't quote them using IE and can't be bothered to log into Chrome. The first and fourth picture on June 10th. Is it a trick photo - an artichoke head dropped inside cauli leaves? And looking closer I can see a paler shoot as well as the beads. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

Not used them before or since, I worried about them too much. Took my pollytunnel down today, high winds forecast this week and although it could survive I tend to lie awake at night listening for it to crash over next door. Have decided thou that I would like a proper green house. Had to remove the last of the tomatoes, Sarah - slave to Cats Anthony, Elsa and Pippa, Chickens, Heidi, Fleur, Gabby and Marmite, R.I.P Cadbury
Re: Sarahs 2012 Garden DiaryWhy does the artichoke in the June 10th picture have cauli type leaves, and the one in the 24th july picture have thistley leaves?

They are essentially of the thistle family, The plant kind of expands, the leaves get bigger and bigger until the Globe flowers. The Globe starts to grow quite early on and I think I am going to have a good compact plant. In the end they take up an area of about 5 square foot.
