Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxHousehold cleaning products - Vim and AjaxHope this is the right place to put this. I think I put the subject on a few years ago.
For as long as I can remember, I have used either Vim or Ajax to clean my ceramic sinks. And for the past few years neither have been in the shops. I am on my last Vim container, nothing makes my butler's sink look and smell as nice. Vim was for sale on ebay, as an exhorbitant price, which I am unwilling to pay. What do other Laners use?
Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxI thought Ajax had been rebranded with another name but I can't find any reference to that. Vim is sold in other countries but Unilever who produced it no longer make it in favour of Jif (now Cif) Basically a lot of the scouring powder cleaning products are sold as cream cleaners (so you pay more for a diluted product ....)
Anyway, here's a recipe off the web to make your own (if you are able to get hold of the ingredients): make your own
Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and Ajaxanother recipe
Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxOh, I remember Vim and Ajax and like you have not seen them for years.
I just use a very cheap, own brand cream cleaner with lots and lots of elbow grease, Spreckly. Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxLL and Gwen - thank you for your replies. I will have a go at the recipe, just written it down.
The reason I am not keen on cream cleaners, is that they tend to leave a residue. I know Vim and Ajax tended to, but it was more easily cleaned off. All the old cleaning favourites are slowly being replaced. I do use household soap, Fairy if I can get it, and own brand makes, they smell so clean. Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxYears ago I bought a bulk pack of Ajax (more than a dozen). Then I started being a bit sparing with its use as I didn't want to release chlorine or whatever into the environment. Still got some in the loft, slightly rusty bottoms and the powder faded from blue to white. Don't know if I'll get through them all or what the family will do with them. Now if you lived in Cheshire...

Re: Household cleaning products - Vim and AjaxI have absolutely no idea whether this works or not, but have been told that using wood ash gives the same abrasiveness and you can add to normal washing up liquid. The person who told me said she uses old bits of bar soap, wetted and softened, with the ash stuck to it. If it works, do please tell me!
