What they mean to me....while having "chicken time" with my little Beatrice earlier I had a surge of what can only be described as real genuine love for her 
She started out as bottomest of bottom hens and I actually thought I might loose her to bullying. It took a lot of TLC and nurturing to get her to her current state of health and happiness. In return for my nurturing as soon as I sit down in the run these days, she jumps straight up onto my lap for a snooze, every day without fail, feathers all puffed up, eyes shut and so content looking. 
I always knew they'd wrap themselves round my heart and I adore them all, but the bond I have with Beatrice is very special to us both. Pegpuss
